THE EYES OF GOD
Ever wonder what God sees? I know I do. I want to see how God sees the things I look at. Some of these things are so beautiful and incredible. Other things are just plain and not very exciting when I see them through my eyes. I mean the Grand Canyon is an awesome creation; the barren desert during the heat of the day is completely void of beauty.
How does God see me? When I look in the mirror, sometimes I like what I see but mostly I am wishing I was taller, had long hair like a rockstar, and had the body of Arnold.
For a woman, I can’t imagine what they wish for. But even the most physically beautiful woman wishes for a change in her appearance. Without that, Los Angeles would not be the capital for plastic surgery. We have this notion that “if only I could change this about me”, it would make me happy and people would like me more. How sad are we?
One of my favorite verses in the Bible is found in the first book of Samuel. It is the search by the messenger of God, Samuel, for the next king of Israel. Since the previous king was handsome, tall and strong; Samuel assumed that these were the traits that God would be looking for in the next king of Israel. So Samuel was searching for these physical traits in David’s brothers who were big and strong. David was just the little runt in the family. Samuel was certain that David’s older brother was the chosen of God.
But the eyes of God see things differently.
“But the Lord said to Samuel “Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, for I have rejected him; For God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
(1 Samuel 16:7 NASB)
God knew David’s heart. That is what He saw. Something Samuel could not see.
Samuel saw a useless child.
God saw His warrior.
We need the Eyes of God in us.
We see a useless jawbone of a donkey.
God sees a weapon of war to be used for His purpose.
We see an old man, Abram, ready for death.
God sees His messenger in Abraham.
We see uneducated, stubborn impetuous Simon.
God sees Peter, the rock on which He would build His Church.
We see Saul, fervently attacking the new followers of Jesus.
God sees Paul, the man whom He would use to send the message of Jesus to the gentiles.
We see Jesus crucified; hung on a cross like a criminal.
God sees our Way to Him.
God always sees what the human eye cannot see.
You see ugliness or imperfection when you look in the mirror.
God sees one of His most beautiful creations. So valuable to Him that He gave the blood of His Son, Jesus, to bring you to Him.
You see fear.
God sees someone He can use for His glory.
You cry tears of sadness and pain.
God sees someone who is ready to turn to Him.
You see an uncertain future.
God sees the plan He has for you.
You see yourself as unloved and unwanted.
God sees His most loved creation. Someone He has pursued with His Love all your life. He wants you. No one will ever want you more.
And as He pursues you –He will always see your heart, just like He did with David.
May God give us His eyes to see what He sees.

This post really hit me where I am…thanks for writing.
My prayer is that God would allow me to see others and myself the way that He sees them/us.
May God bless you!

Hi – just came across your site, and loved how you illustrated the difference between what we often see, and what God sees. I desire to see all things, especially Him, me and others with His eyes. I am writing a book, Agree with God, See Yourself with His Eyes, because I have had such a problem in this area. God has taught me how He sees me, and the confidence I feel just keeps growing and growing. He is enlarging my heart, opportunities, and blessings. You are gifted with words and conveying the heart of God simply. Keep up the good work! He sees a good man in you! mae
