PUPPY TACOS
A good friend of mine and I have joked in a christian chat room about our love for puppy tacos. Now, if you have spent any time in Mexico or a third world country and had tacos on the street, you probably have tasted puppy tacos and just didn’t know it. Know that I love animals, especially dogs (wrapped in a warm tortilla!).
Most who read our conversation assume that we are joking. So they laugh at us (a very common occurrance in my life). But some are actually shocked that we would even consider eating a dog. So much so that they leave the chat room when I now enter it. Now I know I should be sensitive to their tender love for their prized pet, but I cannot help playing with them a bit. Here is my issue with it.
Years ago, I worked for a company whose owner brought her dog to work. Well, she owned the company so she could bring anything she wanted to work. About 3 years later, the dog died. She was devastated. As was I considering the dog bit me twice and hated me with a passion. I named him Cujo although she called him Prince.
Ever been to a dog funeral? Yeah, I didn’t think so. Well……she closed down the entire business one day, we all loaded up into cars and a company van and set off for a pet cemetary. Upon entering, we were ushered into a very small room where Cujo was laying on his side in a very nice coffin. (No I am not lying!). Our VP said we should all say some words about the dog. I was biting my tongue so hard to keep from laughing that I had to excuse myself to go to the restroom. Turning on the water, I laughed so hard I was crying. Hey, tears….maybe this will get me a raise!
Now the not-so-funny part. Months later, her brother-in-law who worked at the company had a brain anyrism (did I spell that right?) and died before his body hit the floor in the company manufacturing plant. He truly was a wonderful man. However, IF you wanted to go to the viewing or funeral, you were required to go on your own without pay. The business was not closed down for one second.
Puppy tacos.
Our priorities in life are so screwed up. We can get completely outraged at baby seals being clubbed to death yet where is our passion over the babies being aborted right down the street in the clinic? We want an eye for an eye yet we discount the Mercy which God showered us with.
In Romans chapter 2, Paul states “Do you show contempt for the riches of His kindness, tolerance, and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness leads you toward repentance?”
Christians are the first to judge. We are the first to condemn. We are the first to complain. How sad are we……We have forgotten to show the kindness of God….we have forgotten that it was this kindness that first brought us to Jesus.
I am no longer going to refer to myself as a Christian. Starting today, I am a follower of Jesus. I am tired of my christian brothers and sisters with their own agenda instead of what God has laid on their heart. I say this knowing that this was me too. But not anymore. I want His burdens on my heart – not my own. I want His will for my life – not mine.
Church is not a business as some would think it should be. It is a calling by God. We need to stop playing church and start following Jesus.
And we need to start with a good lunch of puppy tacos. Pass the salsa please!

I have never heard the story about the Puppy Tacos before … but it got my attention ! New perspective on Man and dog !
Honestly ? I am staggered that people (in this case, this lady) could treat God’s most precious, most loved creation, with such distain – a sad reflection on where she was at, at the time … but then that is why He came – I am so sad for her heart … was she so hurt by man (not men, but man), and so hurt that she chose to remain hurt, that her love transferred safely to a favourite pet … to which she received unconditional love … says something that she was exhibiting a need maybe? Was anyone there for her? Is anyone there for her now?
Despite her maladjusted affections … she is still a woman in need …
